what a pair

what a combo, originally uploaded by carmencita158.

This was such a great show!

I have been to "live to tape" performances before, and have found them tedious to the point of painful. A perfect example of that was the Heart/Wynonna taping I saw for another Crossroads last year. They did EVERY SONG at least twice. The first time, I'd be all excited and clapping along. But when they repeated it, I was annoyed and felt the sting from hands that had clapped together too many times. I think the most entertaining part of that whole night was the half minute when the entire audience was told to laugh so production would have a laugh track to work with. I got so caught up in the hilarity and ridiculousness of that short space of time that I actually felt light-headed with genuine laughter.

But this show was much, much different. Lionel and Kenny were magic together! They only had to repeat one song, and that was because production screwed up. Those two have a wonderful chemistry together. Like brothers. They explained that they have known each other for 25 years, but have not seen each other for 10. Singing and playing each other's songs on stage together really seemed to be fun for them.

And also, I had forgotten how many of their songs have meant something in my life. "The Gambler" is stamped all over my childhood. And those sappy Lionel Richie songs...ah, the memories.

I started the night off being sorry that I was missing my Sex and the City reruns. But in the end, it was a worthy sacrifice. I can always rent those DVDs later on. But I probably won't ever have the chance to witness what I did tonight again.
